Beneficial to many areas of their development kids should be expressing themselves through creativity. Research shows that when teachers provide opportunities to be creative without fear of judgement, children become less anxious, learn there are many solutions to problems, and develop fine motor and communication skills. It important for teachers to incorporate creative expression into all experiences throughout the school day.

Parents can focus on making this a priority at home as well. Here are some ideas:
Infants:
Listen to music with your baby and sing along.
Sing to children even when no music is on
Give your baby safe finger paints.
Display their artwork
Allow your child to experiment with using different objects to make sounds. This could be musical toys or instruments using household objects.
Toddlers/Twos:
Play your child’s favorite music and have a dance party
Go outside and collect objects like leaves, sticks, flowers, or grass. Use these items to create things like a natural collage.
If possible, have an area in your house designated to dramatic play. Encourage them to act out different roles and play in different costumes to develop their imagination.
Preschool/Pre-Kindergarten:
Ask your child to explain artwork they’ve created with detail. Ask why they chose certain colors and shapes, and what their art means to them.
Help your child to make associations between instruments and the sounds they make by pointing out instruments you see while out or reading
Have a designated area in your home just for creating with paper, pencils, crayons, or markers.
Now it’s time to get creative and let their imagination run wild! We hope you have fun experiencing the joy of creativing and the fun of learning, together.
